The Norwood School

Donmar Warehouse - One Night in Miami

Another new, exciting collaboration for Norwood School

The Donmar regularly plays host to some of the finest acting talent available; recent productions have seen actors such as Tom Hiddleston, Catherine Tate, Dominic West, and Zawe Ashton perform on our stage. Yr 9, 10, 11 and Sixth Form boys have been invited to join the prestigious TAKE THE STAGE project that gives young people their own chance to feel the thrill of acting in the Donmar's unique space.

The project offers our boys the chance to work with professional theatre makers to learn about and respond to the most recent production One Night in Miami, learning a wide range of theatrical skills and creating performances based on their reactions to the work. The project also aims to explore a theme beyond theatre, provoking discussions and debates about issues explored in the play.

We know that the project will equip our students with invaluable theatre skills, as well as giving them an insight into how a piece of theatre is put together, and will give them an opportunity to meet members of the creative team at the Donmar Warehouse.

Ebenezer and Ricardo, both Upper Sixth acting students were 'totally blown away' by the whole experience - 'It was one of the most thrilling, moving and emotional productions we have ever seen', they agreed, 'the themes of race and identiy are so powerful, we were all totally gripped and desperately want to get another chance to see it again'.

The partnership will see the same boys return to the theatre for additional workshops and eventually stage a piece of their own in response to the play they all saw.  Well done to everyone for their energy, creative passion and engagement and to Miss Tatum for helping to organise everything!
