The Norwood School

Greenhouse Basketball

London Deputy Mayor Matthew Ryder confident NBA Global Games 2017 will have a positive impact.

Norwood School Greenhouse Sports basketball participants recently had the incredible opportunity to attend an NBA basketball clinic in South London. Year 8 students were put through their paces by coaches, with a guest visit from NBA ambassador and former pro John Amaechi. Amaechi helped the students hone their ball skills, and gave them a rousing pep talk. He spoke not only of how fantastic it is to play basketball and learn alongside your friends, but also of the importance of listening and being on time.

These kinds of messages reinforce those skills our Greenhouse Sports coaches work to facilitate through our STEP framework, empowering young people to lead happy and healthy lives. In 2016, 96% of Greenhouse Sports schools said that Greenhouse Sports helped pupils to become more confident.  Greenhouse Sports Coach Lucio said, “It is so important for the young people to be able to come to an event like this. Having just started playing, it is a fantastic opportunity for them to speak to people with years of experience – it really connects with them.”
