Summer Exam Update

Monday March 23rd 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Important information about examinations that were planned for this summer.

Having received further guidance from the DfE late on Friday regarding the award of qualifications, here is a brief update that we hope students and parents might find helpful. Ofqual will be finalising an approach with exam boards and teacher representatives to ensure a fair and consistent process for awarding grades. They will be using a range of processes that will include the following:

  • Teacher assessment

  • Mock exam results

  • Prior attainment

  • Teacher predictions

  • Existing evidence in the form of coursework (primarily for vocational courses)

  • School's historical progress

We expect further guidance on how exactly this will be done and will provide a further update in due course. With this in mind, it is of utmost importance that students in Year 11 and 13 continue to study remotely and complete all tasks set by teachers for their subjects, so as to maximise any possible evidence that may form part of the qualification awarding process in the summer.

Our teachers are working hard to ensure that  Year 11 and 13 students' work is completed and monitored, in case this becomes required evidence later.

Until further guidance is given, please continue to encourage your child to complete the work set and communicate remotely via ShowMyHomeworkW or Google Classrooms/emails. The key is going to be to keep them working!

Kind regards

Ms Nicholas
