The Norwood School

Exceptional Basketball Success

This week has been an exceptional week for the Norwood Basketball Academy. Starting with our trip to Manchester, being the only School taking 32 students to watch and support one of our own, Juelz Robinson. Juelz, one of the most exciting players to watch in the finals, attended Norwood School Year 7 to 13, currently plays for one of the top Basketball Academies in the country, Myerscough College, which competed in the finals of the Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL). Our students also got the chance to watch the battles between two powerhouses in the Women's Elite Academy Basketball League (WEABL) Finals and the Academy Basketball League (ABL) Finals. This was an invaluable, aspirational trip for our boys and girls. Thank you to all the teachers that enable our students to attend.

Yesterday, our Women's Team competed in the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sports U19 Women Semi-Finals for the first time. After 40+ minutes of battling against a tough opponent, Riverside Basketball Academy. For most of the game, we were down 20+ points at one stage. Our young women displayed extraordinary resilience and unselfishness by staying focused and working extremely hard together until the final buzzer, which resulted in us winning the Semis 62 - 58. We are now through to the finals, due to be played on May 4th at the University of Wolverhampton.

Outstanding leadership from Year 13; Team Captain Victoire and Natacha. A fantastic effort from our Year 12's; Lia, Rodas, Jahnay, Mellina, Rashida, Kyla, Natalia and Sofia, Year 11's; Marni Humphries, Keely Clarke, Year 10's; Neveyah, Makeda, Shennai, Ame and our incredibly talented Year 9; Mahalia Morgan. A huge well done to all of the Team and all involved.

Please congratulate all students when you see them and wish them luck for the finals.
