Music Instrumental Lessons

Please see email sent home to our new Yr 7 Parents last week.

Dear Parents/Carers

As you may be aware, we offer lessons with expert visiting music teachers on a range of instruments, as well as a range of performance opportunities for students who show an interest in music. If you would like to apply for your child/children to take lessons on an instrument, please complete this google form before next Wednesday 13th September.

We will endeavour to accommodate all applications but we may not be able to depending on demand, in which case your child may be placed on a waiting list. I will email everyone by the end of next week to let you know the outcome of your application.

This year we are very excited to be able to offer tuition on steel pans with one the UK's top pan teachers Chris Storey, who runs Pan Nation steel orchestra. We will be running free taster lessons for each year group over the next few weeks and the groups will be selected from these sessions. If your child would like to take part in a taster lesson, please choose the steel pan option on the form, or email me, or ask your child to see myself or Mr Wolstemholme in the Performing Arts office.

We are also delighted to be welcoming some other new members of the music team:

  • Idris Rahman teaching woodwind who, amongst other things, runs youthsayers, a fantastic local youth music project
  • David Ababio teaching piano, David will also be running our choir this year and has a wealth of experience in gospel and soul music
  • Misha Fox teaching brass, Misha is a fantastic young trombone player who this week can be seen playing with Jessie Ware at the Mercury Music Prize final and is a key member of kinetika bloco, one of the UK's most important youth music projects - more of which later in the year.

We are also very pleased to be welcoming back Owen Wilson(guitar), Alan Sutch (drums), Samual Watkin (Strings), and we are particularly pleased to welcome back Amelya Goldy (singing) after an extended absence.

I look forward to your application, please reply to this email if you have any questions.

Kind Regards

Joe Francis
