THE HISTORY CURRICULUM

RATIONALE

A History education develops key skills that are essential for life in the modern world. They increase employability and the chances of having a good life, for example by avoiding extremism and embracing British Values. Historical knowledge is key to understanding modern Britain, developing cultural capital, developing debating skills, and deepening critical thinking. History is intrinsically interesting and ignites learning across the curriculum.

INTENT

Through an inclusive, engaging and challenging History curriculum that reflects our school community, we shave two overarching aims:

  • To equip students with the disciplinary and substantive knowledge needed to be successful to KS5 and beyond and achieve their potential. 
  • To also develop students beyond the academic sphere by giving them the cultural capital, British Values and critical thinking skills to thrive socially and economically within the modern world.
