The Norwood School

Russell Group Programme

Aiming for Oxford and Cambridge University

Visit by Matthew Williams

(BSc (Bristol), MSc and DPhil (Oxon))

Lecturer in Politics at Wadham and Jesus College Oxford

Dr Williams met with students from Year 11, 12 and 13 who will be enrolling onto our Russell Group Programme this year – students who we know have the potential to go to Oxford or Cambridge.

As Matt explained to us -  ‘as Access and Career Development Fellow’, it is my role to help all the brightest students from your school apply to Oxford, regardless of who they are or where they've come from’.

Over the course of the year he will be coming to visit our school and will be   delivering sessions on competitive applications to Oxford and other top universities. As an academic, he will also be offering curriculum enhancement tutorials and workshops for our students.

After having spoken to the students Matt visited an A level Government and Politics lesson with Miss Fleming – he spoke about his experiences as an academic and also led a discussion about one of his most recent research papers -
‘Dehumanising human rights: The use of language in UK anti-discrimination and equality law’ .
