Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I know if my child has SEND? If your child is experiencing significant difficulties in learning, communication, or social interactions, the school will assess their needs and discuss potential support options with you.
2. What should I do if I think my child has SEND? You should contact the SENCo at the school to discuss your concerns. The school can carry out assessments and work with external professionals if necessary.
3. How is SEND support provided in the classroom? Teachers use differentiated teaching strategies, targeted interventions, and additional resources to ensure all students can access the curriculum.
4. Will my child have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP)? Not all students with SEND require an EHCP. The school will assess the level of need and determine whether an EHCP application is appropriate.
5. How often will my child's progress be reviewed? There are two assessment data drops across the academic year, which lead to review of progress of all pupils. Pupils with specific SEND interventions will have their support plan reviewed termly.
6. What external agencies does the school work with? We collaborate with speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to provide comprehensive support.
7. What training do teachers have to support SEND students? Our teachers receive regular SEND-specific training, including differentiation strategies, behaviour management techniques, and inclusive classroom practices with a focus on key areas of need across the school, e.g. dyslexia, ADHD, emotional needs, Mental Health First Aid and Autism Spectrum Condition.
10. What should I do if I am not happy with the support my child is receiving? If you have concerns about your child's support, please contact the SENCo to discuss them. If necessary, we can arrange further meetings to review the provision and make adjustments.
11. What transition support is available for SEND students? We offer tailored transition plans, including additional visits, meetings with key staff, and support materials to help students move smoothly between key stages or to post-16 education.
12. How does the school monitor the impact of SEND interventions? We use regular progress tracking, feedback from students and parents, and assessment data to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and make necessary adjustments
